The number of cases is rising, and hospitals are threatened by overwork. Now the National Health Service in Great Britain is taking action and is again issuing the highest pandemic warning level for England.

In view of the rising number of cases, the National Health Service (NHS) in England is again declaring the highest alert level. The NHS warned people that despite lockdowns, the increase in case numbers could still last at least two weeks.

The reason for the decision to declare alert level 4 again is that the number of people seriously ill with Covid-19 and requiring hospital treatment had recently risen from around 2000 at the end of September to almost 11,000.

At the same time, the NHS is preparing under high pressure for a possible distribution of vaccines. The aim is to be able to distribute a vaccine to the population before Christmas, if a cure for the virus has been found by then, Simon Stevens, head of the National Health Service, told the British broadcaster BBC. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s claim that the British health system is on the brink of collapse was firmly rejected by the head of the NHS.

Johnson had recently stated: “The sick are being turned away because there is no room in our hospitals. Doctors and nurses could soon be forced to decide which patients to treat, who to live with and who to die with.
